Independent director selection post pandemic

Just a few quick, easy – and inexpensive – changes to the way fund directors are chosen could make a huge difference to director selection. As we come out of the pandemic this might be the right time to make those changes.

The asset management industry, like everyone else, was forced to become more reliant upon technology as a result of the pandemic. This particularly applies to fund governance, especially board meetings which, for obvious reasons, have had to be held virtually. Fund boards have been used to using technology  to allow their meetings to take place remotely, and securely. Doubtless many are now well versed in using technology that they didn’t even know existed before March 2020.

These technological advances also apply to director selection. The pandemic may well have speeded up improvements in the director selection process that were just beginning to happen before anyone had heard of Covid.
